Cynthia
Beth Rubin developed the original design for Avignon Afterimage in 1987,
while living in Avignon, France. The imagery reflects the mountainous landscape
of Provence, mixed with the arches which are pervasive in the traditional
architecture of the region. Rubin, a resident of New Haven, Connecticut,
chose Avignon because of the Sister City relationship with New Haven. Using
a Macintosh computer, she designed each color as a separate stencil.
